I slowly opened the carved mahogany box then dropped it with a gasp as the severed hand, shriveled and grey, came tumbling out.
"We heard the whispering voices as we approached the old house calling us closer...closer," she told me, her wild eyes staring straight ahead from a face drained of color but for the dark smears of dried blood streaking her cheeks.
I'm an artist and writer. I've published two non-fiction books,"Gilded Age Murder & Mayhem in the Berkshires," (2015) and "Hudson Valley Murder & Mayhem" (2017). I'm currently working on my third book, which is about Edgar Allan Poe and the crimes that inspired his work, due out in 2020 .
